Case Study: Christ the King RC Church

Christ the King is a vibrant Roman Catholic church set in the heart of Bromborough, Wirral. A great place to renew and practice one’s Christian faith. Sadly, due to an increased risk of vandalism/arson, but also a desire to keep the church doors open as much as possible they were looking for complete CCTV coverage throughout the church, presbytery (priest’s house) and surrounding grounds.

Christ the King RC Church, Bromborough, Wirral.
We valued the opportunity to overhaul the communications & security at our local church as well as enhanced secure Wi-Fi coverage and alarm systems. The requirements of working around sensitive buildings are high, security systems must be an effective deterrent to criminality, at the same time unobtrusive to partitioners.

While CCTV cameras should be a strong visible deterrent, we avoid visible cables.
Respect for the aesthetics of a building can be an important aspect of the task, so visible cabling was kept to a minimum. We used a small Point to Point wireless bridge at the main church to link the cameras back to the church office, eliminating the need for several unsightly camera cables on the outside. This approach also makes it much harder to disable the cameras by cutting cables or locating the CCTV recorder by following them.

To avoid running many camera cables visibly around the church we used a PtP wireless bridge.
We avoid exposed camera cables and on a building like this they would look completely out of place. Not only were we able to keep all of the cables and back-end equipment out of sight from anywhere a normal partitioner would have access, we also colour coded cameras to better match the aesthetic of the church.

Cameras are supplied to us in black or white however we are able to colour code them.
All cables were routed out of sight to a hub in concealed location and use a wireless building link to the main parish office. Even with several 4K cameras streaming CCTV video to the office, the high speed PtP wireless link still had 85% of its bandwidth spare, we used this for a high powered wireless access point fitted in the choir loft allowing guests to connect AV equipment and stream events such as weddings.

Hidden in the choir loft, this AP is able to provide powerful Wi-Fi for church for events.
We setup a comprehensive CCTV monitoring station in the church office, allowing the church to keep its doors open with staff observing activity within. Every camera has intelligent human detection that audibly notifies the office of people entering and every camera has warning strobe light and audible alarm to warn anyone walking around the church grounds outside of normal hours that CCTV is recording.

Staff are able to observe activity across church grounds with an audio cue when visitors enter.
The Church was also provided with one of the latest Ajax alarms systems. For security reasons we can’t publish the details but feel free to take a look at home-connect ‘Intruder Detection’ page for more details & features these amazing cutting-edge systems can provide.

It was great to support Fr. Louis & everyone at Christ the King, we look forward to our next visit.
“Thank you to Frank of Core-Connect who installed the security at our Church in the autumn last year. The installation was extremely efficient and any queries were resolved quickly. I have found Frank prompt to make himself available to help guide us in using the systems, he has provided a great follow-up service. We are completely satisfied with the systems he provided and have no hesitation in recommending him” – Father Louis Maggiore, Christ the King.
