home-connect / Core-Connect was established in 2015. We’re a small family run business started by Frank & Caroline, with over 20 years of telecom & networking experience.
Long before starting our business, Frank was first part of a networking & computer repair company working within the M25 area, based at Kenley near Purley/Croydon in the South East of England. Due to being an authorised Apple repairer, much of his work revolved around onsite computer & networking support for many of the publishing houses throughout Greater London.
He joined British Telecom following his time in computer networking, who were recruiting skilled field technicians to pioneer the rollout of new technologies. Expanding his skill base from indoor networking to outdoor telecom, both traditional & next-generation, he was involved in the trials of ADSL broadband throughout the London area in the early 2000’s. During his 15 years with BT, he became highly skilled in overhead & underground cabling, pole & duct work, exchange/frame, worked with BT Security/Redcare, volunteered for every course available and in the latter half of his career, a Special Faults Investigator, solving the most difficult broadband (ADSL/VDSL) & interference faults (REIN).
We married while he worked at BT and following the birth of our son Ben in 2005, moved to the Wirral in North West England. Frank’s career aim at BT, which became Openreach a year after the move, was to train/coach other engineers, a logical progression for an engineer who loved the job. After 13 years of hard work & patience, Openreach finally sought new coaches. He was successfully selected from amongst 200 other applicants to join a new coaching academy. Things were looking good, life seemed to be on track!
However this success was not to last, the academy ran for several months before it’s cancellation due to the company deciding that the Coach role was to be made obsolete. Frank’s Plan B, should BT prove to have no future, was for us to start our own business and with many of his family members already being entrepreneurs with successful companies, there was no shortage of support & advice. He had already spent much of his own time becoming skilled with security products like CCTV and had spotted gaps in the market such as Wi-Fi that BT had shown no interest for providing properly engineered solutions for. So the course was set for us to strike out on our own and start the customer focused company we are today. -Caroline.
